Diary: Let’s do Lunch – Paris

Few highprofile restaurateurs have made it to Birmingham, and even fewer have delivered, but Patrick McDonald has taken the plunge with Paris, and he certainly deserves to succeed. Paris is a true oasis for those who love to lunch.

With just 40 covers, soft lighting and spacious layout, Paris is an ideal venue for business lunches/dinners. Although there is no music, it has a wonderful atmosphere and is always busy.

Service is excellent welcoming, informed and efficient. The A La Carte menu is not cheap, although that does not mean it isn’t worth it. But the Table d’Hote menu is fantastic value and was a welcome midweek treat.

After a delicious artichoke veloute appetiser, we started with lobster ravioli served with lobster consomme and garnished with tomato relish.

Loin of venison followed, served deliciously pink with a bitter chocolate sauce, caramelised pear, red cabbage and crispy sweet potato. For pudding I went for the hot le souffle and sorbet combination. The wine list is extensive, with a wide choice of half bottles and wine by the glass.

The sheer quality of the food at Paris is a real pleasure. And it is only a stone’s throw from Birmingham New Street station so if you are visiting the second city and need a venue, look no further.
